About the artist
Margaret Loring Merrill has worked in watercolor for all her painting career. She began dabbling with them as a child and has continued to explore the medium over the years while trying different styles of expression.
While living in Newport, RI, in the early 1970s, Margaret studied with Richard Grosvenor, a well-known artist who taught art and architecture at St. Georges in Middletown, RI.. Later during her time in Boston, Margaret spent many years painting with Nancy Sargent Howell, a distinguished watercolor artist. Currently, Margaret paints with Judith Kinsman, a Maine watercolor artist of acclaim. Fall of 2019, Margaret accompanied Nancy Howell on a painting trip to Italy where they traveled the countryside and painted village, countryside, and seacoast scenes. Margaret has exhibited with Maine Women in the Arts, has been in group shows at the Dyer Library in Saco, participated in Prout's Neck Yacht Club art show, and most recently had a solo show at Harris Farm in Dayton, Maine. Coming up in October, 2021, Margaret's works will be exhibited at the Cia Cafe in Saco and South Portland. The exhibit runs from October 3, 2021 - January 3, 2022. She will have 23 paintings on show. Damariscotta River Grill is located at 155 Main St., Damariscotta, Maine. Great food and inspirational art. A solo showing, running from February - April, 2023 at 22 Chestnut St. Gallery in Portland just concluded. Check back with Margaret to find out where you can view her work in the coming months. St. Albans Episcopal Church located at 885 Shore Rd. in Cape Elizabeth is hosting a solo show of Margaret's work from February 14 through March 23.
